Netflix Just Changed The Ending Of "The Notebook" In Some Countries And People Are Furious

The internet has officially broken.
Netflix Just Changed The Ending Of "The Notebook" In Some Countries And People Are Furious

Let's face it, even if you aren't a fan of romantic films or "chick flicks" you've seen The Notebook before. It's basically a cult classic film about a man, Noah, and a woman, Allie, whose love story lasts for decades and faces testing situations. The entire movie is a tear-jerker for most, but the waterworks seriously happen during the last shot of the film, where Allie and Noah pass away together in old age while wrapped in each others arms.

The film has been adored since it was first released, and in case you didn't know, it's available on Netflix Canada right now. Starting March 15, Netflix subscribers in the U.S. will also be able to view the film. The only problem is that they won't be seeing the ending they're used to.

TL;DR Netflix UK has officially changed the ending to The Notebook to a much less popular alternate ending that has left fans outraged. The movie will be coming to Netflix US on March 15 and will include the alternate ending, as well. More details and Tweets below.

Yes, it's a shock to all of us, but Netflix UK just changed the ending to The Notebook. Needless to say, fans are absolutely outraged right now.

The new ending apparently replaced the final shot of Allie and Noah together with a completely different shot of birds flying over a lake (presumably a metaphor for the infamous line in the film).

Fans immediately expressed their anger and confusion over the change on Twitter:

I'm not big into romantic movies but I have seen #thenotebook and @netflix what you did wasnt ok that ending was beautiful it's all I can ever hope for in my marriage so when I finally eat dirt I can go with the one I love dont you dare take that away! Put it back!

Why has @NetflixUK changed the ending to The Notebook!? 😭 I was going to watch it but now I’m going to need to buy it instead 🙃

February 25, 2019

Why did @netflix change the ending of The Notebook??

February 27, 2019

PSA: I think we should all halt our political agendas and disagreements to come together and take all of that hate and anger to Netflix for their "alternate" ending of The Notebook.

February 27, 2019

Disgraceful to change a great ending of "The Notebook" and it ruins the original story @netflix@NetflixUK@FoxBusiness

February 27, 2019

@netflix changed the ending of The Notebook because they’re mad that it’s so successful and isn’t a Netflix Original Movie.

February 27, 2019

Other Twitter users have instead explained that this ending has, in fact, been around for a while...

IF I remember correctly, the ending in the book is different and there is a sequel to The Notebook call The Wedding. And if I remember correctly, Noah is still alive in the 2nd book!

February 27, 2019

Are you sure that #Netflix has changed the ending? I have seen #TheNotebook 2 or 3 times over the years, but I was surprised to learn today about such ending - that they both die embracing! I have never seen it ending like that! Maybe there are different movie cuts out there

February 26, 2019

Don't let these folks make you feel crazy. I've seen both endings, but I saw the bird one first and was confused when I eventually saw the death ending.

February 27, 2019

Lol so it turns out #TheNotebook has an “alternative ending” on Netflix which I’ve just found out is the “UK ending” ie the one I’ve known my whole life so um

February 27, 2019

Some claim that the alternate ending changes the whole tone of the film.

People are freaking out over the change of The Notebook on Netflix.
Not knowing that in the book, it's 2 old people banging in the end.
"And she undoes my buttons, one by one"

And there is a sequel.
You get a cake and a surprise cake. #IHateTheNotebook

February 27, 2019

Some are even concerned that Netflix will begin changing the endings to other popular films, as well.

Has @netflix gotten so huge and arrogant that they can now edit other companies films like “The Notebook”? Or have we gotten so sensitive and coddled that we can’t take a story with a gut wrenching ending?

February 27, 2019

Wait... @netflix is re-editing and CHANGING MOVIES??? Whether or not you like The Notebook, this is profoundly disturbing.

February 27, 2019

Not that I care about The Notebook specifically (honest), but Netflix re-edits content that it has on there? Is this common?

February 27, 2019

So, let me get this straight.@NetflixUK edited the Notebook to remove the last scene. And apparently @Netflix in Canada did the same to Pride and Prejudice.

So, if I am going to watch a movie for the first time, should I just not watch it on there? Why even pay for it?

February 27, 2019

@NetflixUK saw the thing about the notebook. You haven't messed with any other films or shows have you? It's not what people want you to do.

February 26, 2019

According to sources, Netflix US will be releasing the same alternate ending of The Notebook on March 15.

also americans who don’t have the notebook on netflix, it’s coming march 15th with the same alternate ending that the uk currently has. it’s a lot less sad for first fime viewers but if you’re rewatching, this is a warning 🥰

How do you feel about the change to the infamous film? Let us know!
