Coffee is for everyone. No matter what your diet is, everyone is tired in the morning and we all need that boost that only coffee can provide. Luckily, there are so many different ways you can make coffee that no one has to sacrifice it because of their life choices. Thank goodness for coffee.
Also, Montreal is absolutely teeming with places to grab a cup of joe. And if you've decided that cow's milk just isn't your thing, then these vegan cafes are sure to please.
And even if you aren't vegan, a cafe is a cafe. Cutesy little spaces and warm atmospheres will make just about anybody's day. So check out these places if you're in need of a new hangout spot.
1. Cafe Leaves
This place is 100% gorgeous. You just won't be able to tear yourself away. Not only is the art and the paint job absolutely beautiful, this cafe is also covered with plants and cacti, so you'll feel calmer and collected while you're rushing to finish your work. They've got coffee, they've got baked books, they've got everything you need. In short, they got you.
2. Hive Cafe
This student-run cafe is sure to give you everything you could possibly want. The Hive Cafe Solidarity Cooperative started through the Concordia Food Groups and it's actually a food group research project. How awesome is that? So by eating and drinking here, you're not only feeding yourself, but you're contributing to ongoing research.
I actually discovered this place by accident, and boy am I glad that I did. The one I went to was on Stanley and I almost missed it. It's a little hole in the wall, but the second you get in, you're going to feel right at home. Their simple menu doesn't need bells and whistles. It's coffee and snacks, plain and simple. No need for you to waste your time and money. And of course, they've got all manner of milk substitutes!
I didn't know about this place before doing my research, and now that I do, I cannot wait to go! Apparently, this place is much more than a cafe. Not only do they have amazing organic and local food and drink, but they even offer cooking classes! How cool is that? Their food looks delicious, and their decor just looks like I could comfortable in an instant.
5. Le Cagibi
This place has much more than meets the eye. It's a cafe, yes, but it's also a restaurant and a venue pace. You can expect to see local artists, musicians, performers, curators and community organizers in this amazing and comfortable atmosphere. They've got baked goods, and they even have brunch! They use organic and fair-trade ingredients and try employ local and small businesses as much as possible too. This is the epitome of a vegan's heaven.
Velish specializes in freshly pressed juices and let me tell you their smoothies are out of this world! I really don't think you can get any healthier than this. They even use a "hydraulic juice press" which apparently allows them to produce the most nutritious and high-quality product possible. All of their drinks contain tons of vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes because they're completely natural. Don't forget to try out their awesome soups and sandwiches!
It's all right there in the title, you are going to LOVE is here. It may even feel like you're under some kind of spell. Now while coffee is all good and great, it's also really important to eat (I know some people can forget to do that sometimes when they're working too hard). And this place has absolutely got you covered when it comes to food. You are going to feel full and revitalized after spending the afternoon here. Trust me.
8. Cafe Tuyo
This awesome little place serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee. So you could pretty much set yourself up here for the day and never leave. They've got you covered from morning until night. All of their stuff is 100% vegan and their baked good are to die for. They've even got live music every now and again. It can be found in Le Plateau, so get your butt down there right now!
This cafe bar is going to change your life. They are extremely proud of their attentive staff and relaxing atmosphere. Their cozy environment is amazing because unlike most super busy coffee shops, you can actually hear the silence in this place. If you're looking for a place to relax, this is the place to be. Check out their awesome selection of coffee, sandwiches, and tea.
10. Le Milieu
This is one of the most unique places you will ever have the pleasure of visiting. This cafe actually doubles as an art studio, so it's the perfect place to unwind. It's full of second-art supplies that are available to everyone on a pay-what-you-can basis. People tend to bring their own projects to work on, so you can really see some cool stuff while enjoying a cup of coffee here. And of course, they serve fair-trade, organic drinks, and vegan food!
