Incandescent bulbs will be replaced in stores by pricier, but more energy efficient models like compact fluorescent lamps and CFLs.
Cheaper halogen bulbs are now available, even though they do not meet energy standards. Halogen bulbs will not be part of the new system starting in the new year.
A lot of uncertainty and inaction still surrounds the project (regulations, affordability, feasibility), despite being seven years in the making. A major issue is the lack of recycling measures for the new bulbs containing toxic mercury.
