Thanksgiving is one of the greatest holidays ever created by man. It’s an excuse to stuff your face full of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Not to mention drink copious amounts of wine. If you’re lucky, your mom will do all the laundry that’s been piling up while you study for midterms. But let’s face it, all those calories felt a lot better going in than they look now so here’s a few tips on how to work off your unwanted flub.

Hot Yoga

Trust me, it's NOT just for chicks. The flexibility, strength, and endurance it takes to pull off some of the poses could make professional male athletes’ knees shake. The other great thing is that you sweat out all the toxins you’ve been putting into your body since the beginning of the semester. Not to mention it melts away all the stress of your midterm or work schedule. Make sure you bring at least two towels and head over to Moksha on St. Laurent. If you’re not into hot yoga, Bliss is a new yoga studio down the street with regular yoga.

Cycling along the Canal

Montreal is a great city to cycle in. You could follow the bike lanes around the city and explore the great neighborhoods of Mtl to your heart’s content. If you want a more directed ride though, cycle down to Old Port and follow the La Chine Canal down to Parc Réné-Levesque. You should pack a lunch and take a break in the beautiful park to check out the sculptures while you eat. If you feel like you’ve burned enough calories, you can treat yourself to a soft-serve ice cream at the gates to the park.

Hit the ground running

We all know running is the most efficient way to burn calories. The added bonus is that now you can work out and take in the beautiful colors of the leaves. Mont Royal is the best place to do both, but you already knew that. If you’re looking to switch it up a bit, run a bit further east to Parc Lafontaine and do a loop or two.

Climbing in the City

Rock climbing is a great workout, especially to sculpt your core and derriere, which we all know are the most important assets of any twenty-something student. It’s way more fun than doing sets in a gym and you can do it all year round in one of the rock climbing gyms in Montreal. One of the most popular is Allez Up in Verdun (it’ll only take you 15 minutes on the bus). For those who’ve never tried it, you can grab a friend and climb with an experienced monitor for an hour for $20.

Cross Fit

If you’re trying to get fit fast, take up cross fit. You’ll burn calories while you improve your strength, endurance, and flexibility. The program is varied and mixes cardio and weight training to give you the best all around workout. For those who are skeptical about cross fit, CrossFit Plateau offers a free introduction class for you to try out the program. You can’t find a better deal than that.
