Yesterday was essentially the (unofficial) first day of the warmer seasons. It was also Earth Day... which was a memo this plane pilot clearly did not receive.
An airplane was forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of a highway in Quebec yesterday, April 22.
Quebec Police report that the plane had to make an emergency landing on the highway near Old Chelsea Road around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Old Chelsea Rd is located in the northwest region of Gatineau, QC. The plane looks like it was a privately owned, as most planes this size usually are.
The small plane's pilot was concerned about engine failure and was forced to land on the highway. Nobody was hurt in the impromptu landing.
Traffic in the area was disrupted. Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the landing and traffic on the highway was disrupted.
Oona Woods recaps the happening, as she was driving back to Ottawa on Highway 5 when she spotted the plane flying increasingly lower.
I was driving south full of chill from a day at Spa Nordik and had to floor the Jeep it to get underneath it before it landed in the northbound lane! Zen and chill completely wiped out! @DougHempstead https://t.co/chg2YIKl8f— Woodstalk (@OttawaOona) April 22, 2018
There is plane on highway 5 by the Chelsea exit! Weird. pic.twitter.com/WEnbgHqdej— 🦋 Foodie Kenobi⚜️🇨🇦 (@Foodiemental) April 22, 2018
Woods went on to note that she could see the plane in her rearview mirror stop in the middle of the highway in-between cars!
This is certainly not something you see every day. It's nice to hear that nobody was hurt, and the pilot is okay - it was said he was "as cool as cucumber" and had no real panic in spite of the emergency landing.
