It's no secret that the past week has been ice cold, to say the least. Temperatures reached record-breaking lows as mountains of snow piled up across the country. Unfortunately, the products of the first winter storm of 2019 look like they're here to stay, as another system is making its away across eastern Canada this afternoon.

TL;DR As of today, 10 out of the 10 coldest places on Earth are in Canada. With a new storm system arriving in eastern Canada this evening, temperatures will remain in the minus 30s and 40s. More details below.

It may or may not be surprising that Canada just so happened to make the list of coldest places in the world today. With temperatures ranging in the minus 40s to 60s over the last few days, it would be startling to find anywhere that was colder.

What is shocking is how many times Canada pops up on the list of top 10 coldest places on Earth. As of right now, the country is holding all 10 spots.

So, it is official, Canada is most definitely the coldest place on the planet right now. Not like we didn't already assume so every day of this week, but it's a nice reassurance and proof that anyone complaining about the cold really wasn't exaggerating.

The coldest city on the planet right now is Coral Harbour, Nunavut at -43°C. The rest of the list ranges in temperature from the minus 30s and 40s. The Canadian cities and towns that made the list are also dealing with conditions such as blowing snow, ice crystals, and heavy mist. Needless to say, they definitely deserve making the top 10 list of coldest places on Earth.

Who knows how long we'll maintain our spot on this ranking. With another storm on the way, Canada is expected to stay ice cold for a very, very long time.
