The Queen of Canada, Elizabeth II, has agreed to plans to create a new "royal household" for Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. This announcement follows reports that there has been "tension" between the Sussexes, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge (formerly and popularly known as Kate Middleton). Though the royal family denies that there is any feud between the couples.
The household refers to the place that the royals have their offices in and base their staff. As of now, the brothers have both worked in Kensington Palace. This news of a new household is in tandem with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's annoucement that they are moving to Frogmore Cottage, where they will raise their child.
TL;DR The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are moving their household to Buckingham Palace, as the couple also moves from Kensington Palace to their own residence in Frogmore Cottage. This has reportedly been planned since the couple got engaged. The Palace denies this has anything to do with the alleged clash between the Sussexes and Cambridges.
The official palace statement reads: "the Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year. The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring."
Apparently, this move has been planned since the couple's engagement. But the news of this arrangement also comes as reports swirl about the fraught relationship between Markle and Middleton. There have also been reports that the Queen, herself, isn't a fan of Markle's style.
The split is most likely due to the increasingly separate roles that the brothers play in the royal family. As Prince William is set to inherit the crown, it is thought that the household split is reflective of the difference in their working lives.
The news also comes as the couple is preparing their move to Frogmore Cottage. Don't be fooled by the name, though: this mansion is anything but a cottage.
Meghan Markle, who is expecting a child, has officially retired from the public eye, focusing on the health of her baby, which is expected in late April or early May. It is unclear whether the household move will come before or after the baby is born.
