The most festive place on the South Shore!
- Winter came early this year, and that means so did the beginning of putting up holiday decorations. And one family, who takes their decorating very seriously, has created an entire Christmas village for people to explore.
- Notre Monde Magique de Noël opened this Saturday and will remain open until January 2, so you have tons of time to experience this magical spot!

If the people of Quebec were waiting for the right time to start putting up holiday decorations, the first snowstorm that hit in early November definitely gave us the perfect excuse to dive into the magic of Christmas early this year. Stores have put their most festive decorations on display, cafes have introduced their lattes that taste like holiday cheer, and we have become more and more eager to discover the small wonders that surround us.
If you were disappointed to find out that the house with 250,000 Christmas lights was not coming back this year, you can rejoice - because we have discovered a magical Christmas world that will meet all of your holiday expectations.
There will be 100,000 lights and more than 10,000 decorations used to make up Notre Monde Magique de Noël, which is located on the South Shore of Montreal, about 50 minutes from downtown.
It is with pure generosity that Karine Flibotte and her family decided to share, for free, their love for Christmas magic to the public.
While they're used to decorating for the holidays, they founded "Notre Monde Magique de Noël" a few years ago to invite Quebecers into their magical Christmas world.
Since it's beginning, the event has grown every year. Last year, there were more than 25,000 people who went to discover this enchanted place where everything is free, from the parking to the entry and even the hot chocolate and sugar cream in their Saloon, which looks straight out of the Wild West.
However, visitors are invited to leave a voluntary contribution in the big Christmas stocking to encourage the family and their volunteers to continue this magical tradition.
According to Karine Flibotte, one of the founders, the whole thing requires a month and a half where six people do "full-time elf work." She adds that there are "many other elves who help us a lot during this time," as volunteers play a key role in this success.
This year, they had to double their efforts since the big snowstorm did not work in their favour.
But no need to worry, the magic of Christmas lived on and this Christmas world officially opened its doors to the public on Saturday, November 16.
This year is more grandiose than ever: "We have more than 100,000 lights and more than 10,000 decorations. We also have more than a dozen themes ranging from the North Pole to the amusement park to the world of giants."
This Christmas world is open from November 16 until January 5, every night from 5 p.m. to midnight. It is important to note that on evenings of rain or heavy snowstorms, the site might be closed for maintenance and prevention.
