With the rise of COVID-19 in Quebec, many health officials have been speaking out about proper protective measures that individuals should be taking. Such measures include washing your hands, and monitoring yourself for a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, and self-isolating if you have any of these symptoms. Dr. Horacio Arruda, Quebec's Director of Public Health, released a video explaining why wearing a face mask on is not a protective measure.

In the video, Dr. Arruda explains that wearing a face mask will not prevent you from getting infected with COVID-19.

"If you want to prevent infections, you won't protect yourself by wearing a mask around you, touching objects, playing with the mask, or wearing it over your eyes and nose. In fact, if you want to protect yourself, it's not the mask that's important. Wash your hands," he says.

He then continues to explain the underlying issue with everyone stocking up on masks during this pandemic. "The mask must be reserved for care in order to prevent a sick patient from infecting others. The use of masks by the population for prevention purposes risks causing a shortage in the health network," Dr. Arruda explains.

So please, follow health official's guidelines and leave the face masks for people who genuinely need them.
