Forever 21 is closing across Canada, an official announcement from Business Wire indicates. The fast-fashion house will discontinue all operations in Canada after "years of poor performance and challenges set forth by the headwinds facing the retail industry today."
Due to this poor performance, the Canadian stores are "no longer economically viable," for Forever 21, meaning the 44 stores that exist across the country will slowly be liquidated and eventually closed.
The company filed for bankruptcy in the United States, which allows for a "reorganization of its businesses," Business Wire continues.
This reorganization is not set to impact any stores in the U.S. or Latin America.
Approximately 2,000 Canadians working at Forever 21 will be impacted by this decision and will inevitably lose their jobs, though the store obviously plans to stay open during liquidation, meaning their staff gets to live through the inevitable insanity of working through nationwide liquidation sales.
In addition to closing their stores in Canada, Forever 21 announced last week that they will also be closing their 14 stores in Japan, and The London Free Press reports that most of their Asia and European stores will likely be next.
The store will, of course, continue to be accessible for purchases online, but this could mean shipping becomes more of an expense.
In Quebec there are six locations, listed below.
Galeries De Capitale, 5401 boulevard des Galeries, Quebec, QC.
Laurier Quebec, 2700 boulevard Laurier, Quebec, QC.
Carrefour Laval, 3035 boulevard le Carrefour, Laval, QC.
Complexe Les Ailes, 677 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montreal, QC.
De La Montagne, 1255 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montreal, QC.
Fairview Pointe Claire, 6815 route Transcanadienne, Pointe Claire, QC.
There are also two locations in Ottawa, at the Rideau Centre and Place D'Orleans. Find store locations on their website here.
With the stores expected to be open during the liquidation process, there's no question that we can expect some serious sales coming to the locations listed above very soon.
And after they've left? Well, as mentioned above, shopping online is still an option. There are also several locations just south of the border, like the Mapleview Shopping Center in Burlington, Vermont.
Across Canada, Forever 21 will be closing 44 of their stores in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
And while this totally sucks for the company and all its employees that will soon lose their jobs... I can't help but be stoked for the sales.
Stay tuned for news about liquidation sales as they begin to crop up across the country and in Quebec.
