La Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) announced this afternoon that all locations across the province will be open seven days a week starting on Monday. This marks the first time since November that the cannabis boutique will be open for more than a few days.
Apparently, their rationale for opening all week long is that product supplies have vastly improved and are now widely available across Quebec. Since last year, the SQDC has been struggling to keep up with intense demand and, finally, they seem to have figured it out.
Opening hours will be Monday to Wednesday, 10 AM - 6 PM, Thursday to Friday 10 AM - 9 PM, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM. The rue Sainte-Catherine location will have extended hours on Wednesday, until 9 PM.
According to the press release, the announcement of the new hours also comes with the opening of a brand-new location in Gatineau. Still, though, they claim that the supply hasn't yet reached "desired levels" so don't expect there to be instant improvements.
However, the SQDC claims that there will now be 40 to 60 products available across all locations and online at all times because supplies have been steadily growing.
This marks a substantial improvement in the SQDC product range. Within the first few months of operation, only 15 to 20 different products were available.
The Gatineau branch will officially be open on May 22nd. This will be the 15th location in Quebec. Last week, the SQDC promised that there would be 43 locations by March 2020.
Over the next few months, the SQDC will open another six locations across the province, including one more in Montreal on rue Queen-Mary. They're currently hiring for positions across all locations.
Legal cannabis in Canada has been under intense scrutiny recently as more people are returning to black market sources. Support for legal weed has dropped 19% across the country.
Hopefully, supplies will be more readily available as time goes on but for now, it seems like the SQDC believes the transition to new store hours will go smoothly.
The SQDC will be open 7 days a week starting next Monday across the province. Extended hours mark the first time that supplies of legal cannabis in Quebec are steady.
