At about 5:30 a.m. this morning, a 51-year-old Montreal woman was hit by an STM bus in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The incident occurred at the corner of blvd. St-Laurent and rue Sauvé.
At around 12:00 p.m., officials confirmed that the woman had died at a local hospital, according to the CBC.
Initial reports stated that she was trapped beneath the bus when first responders arrived to the scene.
The bus driver is also undergoing treatment for shock. He was the only individual in the vehicle.
Details are few. It is unclear what led to the fatal collision. A police investigation is ongoing, according to Global News.
The intersection was closed to traffic immediately following the collision but an SPVM spokesperson confirms that both streets have reopened.
This is the 15th pedestrian death on the Island of Montreal this year, the spokesperson continues.
