Officials have issued a boil water advisory in the Montreal borough of Lachine. Every household, except the ones in the Saint-Pierre district, is asked to be vigilant and boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking.

The preventative advisory was posted at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. There's no word on when the alert will be lifted.

A map of affected areas is available online.

Boil water advisory for all of Lachine except the Saint-Pierre district.

Borough of Lachine

You should boil your water if you're planning to drink it, prepare foods, give to your pets or babies, or brush your teeth, the city says.

You don't need to boil the water if you're simply washing your hands, washing your dishes, taking a shower, or doing your laundry.

Once the advisory is lifted, residents are asked to run their taps for a few minutes before drinking.
