The Montreal Fire Department (Sécurité incendie Montréal, SIM) is on the scene of a gas leak on the corner of avenue Old Orchard and rue de Terrebonne in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. SIM is requesting that residents avoid the area, which is about one block from chemin Côte-Saint-Luc and two blocks from Villa-Maria orange metro line station. Hydro-Québec has reportedly cut power to the neighbourhood in response. At the time of writing, 8,935 Hydro customers are without power.
Hydro estimates that power will be restored around 9:45 a.m.
UPDATE: Hydro Québec has restored power to the neighbourhood.
Another 166 customers in NDG will be without power until 11:00 a.m., though it's unclear if that outage is also related to the gas leak.
A map on the Hydro Québec website shows the area of the outage, which extends roughly from chemin Côte des Neiges to rue Walkley and from Hampstead to Monkland Village.
The location of the gas leak is marked below on the map.
We will update this article with information as it becomes available.
