Remember a few years ago when the city was abuzz with people actually out walking and hanging out in parks and interacting with total strangers? That was the beginning of Pokémon GO — the augmented reality game that took the world by storm.

But while many of us thought the game quietly passed into mobile oblivion, it turns out it still has a serious fan base.  Who knew?

This September, for a few days only, you will be able to catch Pokémon to your heart's delight at North America's first Safari Zone.

The Safari Zone is taking place in Parc Jean-Drapeau at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. If you're wondering what a Safari Zone is, it's a special reserve of rare and wild Pokémon, and fast Pokémon will be showing up more often than usual.

According to the Pokemon GO Hub, one-of-a-kind Field Research will be available for Trainers throughout the event.

This is a ticketed event! But there is no word on cost or when tickets will be available to the public, though they will most likely be advertised through an in-game announcement.

And if having a Montreal Pokémon wonderland to play in doesn't impress you, organizers have just shared that Yanma will be the star of the show with a probable shiny Yanma release.

Safari Zones have taken place in spots around Asia and Europe but this is the first for Canada. And while I may not get the whole thing, what better place to start than Montreal

But if you can't make it to our city don't worry. The Pokémon featured here will be showing up more often all over Canada

Organizers expect to see tens of thousands of fans to take part, so keep an eye out on the official page for ticket updates.

Tyler Paul Hansen tells MTL Blog that, in fact, the Pokémon Go fanbase is a thriving community. He and fellow players from Kingston, Ontario plan to make the drive to Montreal to participate in the Safari Zone.
