Montreal has mastered a few things throughout its existence and bagels are at the top of that list.
Montreal bagels are in my opinion the best in the world — yes, I am also including New York City in my evaluation.
We are lucky enough to have some of the most epic bagel spots right in our city and this year, fan favourite Fairmount Bagel is celebrating its 100th year of operation!
In celebration of its centennial, Fairmount is hosting a party and all of Montreal is invited. Ave. Fairmount will be closed for one block between rues St-Urbain and Clark.*
This 100th birthday party will include clowns, a stilt walker, inflatable games and slides, a Mickey park, carnival games, face paint and, of course, bagel tastings. There will also be a live DJ spinning some of the hottest tracks of the summer.
Join the celebration on September 7, 2019 from 11 a.m until 5 p.m, however, if it rains, the event will take place the following day at the same time and place.
For those of you who don’t know about the history behind this iconic Montreal location, let me educate you.
This establishment was the first bagel shop in Montreal and at the time it was called Montreal Bagel Bakery. The first location was located just off Boulevard Saint Laurent.
Fairmount was the place that got our city addicted to hand rolled, fresh Montreal Bagels cooked in a wood-burning oven.
In 1949, they moved from Boulevard Saint Laurent to Rue Fairmount and renamed the bakery "The Original Fairmount Bakery Shop."
This family owned establishment has kept this legacy alive. All the bagels are still rolled by hand and baked in an old-fashioned wood-burning oven.
The founder’s grandchildren now run the business and keep their grandfather's life-long work alive for the tourists and locals, alike, who now flock to the store.
Fairmount bagel has a lot to be proud of and this is your chance to go give thanks to this establishment.
100 years of feeding locals and tourist, 100 years of being open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 100 years of creating simple and delicious bagels, 100 years of serving happiness throughout our city, 100 years of being part of what makes Montreal so special.
