Montreal Road Construction Comes Roaring Back This Weekend With Some Major Closures
The noise returns.
A familiar sight will return this long weekend as construction crews will be hard at work. Major Montreal road closures will affect several areas of the city "especially on the A-15 north and south between the Turcot interchange and the Samuel de Champlain Bridge and on the A-40 westbound between the Laurentides and Décarie interchanges," according to Mobilité Montreal. The Transportation Department and its partners recommend that all drivers avoid the affected areas.
Road construction had been stalled since the start of the health crisis in March. The Government of Quebec recently lon construction and allowed work to gradually resume on the road network.
"I wish a good return to all our workers on construction sites across Quebec. I am convinced that motorists will exercise caution and respect the instructions related to construction sites," said François Bonnardel in a statement on May 8.
While construction workers aren't required to wear protective equipment, they do have to follow social distancing guidelines.
Work on Highway 40 begins on Friday night and continues until 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
Expect a complete closure of the A-40 westbound, between boulevard Saint-Laurent and boulevard de l'Acadie and the entrance of the A-520 at boulevard Cavendish.
Drivers can detour via the service road on boulevard Crémazie and chemin de la Côte-de‑Liesse.
Work on the southbound Highway 15/Turcot interchange corridor to the Samuel de Champlain Bridge began on Thursday night and will end on Tuesday morning.
There's a whole lot of work happening on the Turcot over the long weekend and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Here are a few closures you should be aware of:
the A-15 South between the Turcot Interchange and avenue Atwater;
the ramp leading from the A-15 South to the A-20 West towards Lachine, the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, and Dorval;
the ramp leading from the A-20 East to the A-15 South towards the Samuel de Champlain Bridge; and
the ramp leading from the A-20 East to the A-15 North.
Though the health crisis offered a temporary respite from the noise and detours of construction, it comes roaring back this weekend.
