A fire in Montreal broke out last night at a Dollarama in the borough of Pierrefond-Roxborough, right around rush hour.

In a video sent to MTL Blog, you can see the intense smoke billowing from the popular chain discount store as firemen work hard to quell the flames.

At least four fire trucks can be seen in the video, with several outside the Super C grocery store that shares the same parking lot.

People are also seen standing in the parking lot in awe as the massive fire continues to cause smoke to pour out of the store.

While we await comment from the Sécurité incendie de Montréal, I spoke with an employee from the adjacent bar, Le Skratch, who was able to confirm that their establishment is now open again to the public, which would indicate that the fire was caught before it was able to spread too far within the shopping complex.

Our own eyewitness was able to capture the video below that shows the extent of the fire from the parking lot. Alarm bells can be heard ringing and you can even hear someone cough from the extent of the smoke.

Take a look at the video below.

Without a statement from SIM, we are still unsure what the cause of the fire was and if it had something to do with a product or customer that was in the store.

We also can't be certain if there were any injuries or if anyone was treated for smoke or shock.

We tried calling the Dollarama location as well, but when the call was answered there was simply a loud, crackling sound and then the call was ended.

Just after 6 p.m., the Sécurité incendie de Montreal tweeted out that a building was on fire at the corner of Pierrefondss and des Sources, noting that electricty may be cut and that citizens should avoid the area.

About two hours later, just before 8:15, SIM was able to let citizens in the area know that the fire had been dealt with, which seems to mean the fire never required a second alarm.

The Dollarama is located between boulevard Gouin Ouest and boulevard de Pierrefonds, at the corner of boulevard des Sources.

As we were unable to contact the Dollarama, it is unclear if and when they will reopen.

We will update this space with any new details that are provided.
