There's good news on the way for those of you who can't wait to get a haircut. The Quebec government just authorized the reopening of all Montreal hairdressers, barbershops, and personal care services such as nail salons, tattoo shops, and skincare services. These shops can reopen across the Montreal metropolitan community (CMM) as of June 15.

Personal care services join retail shops, drive-in theatres, campsites, and national parks in a wave of planned reopenings across the province.

"This is good news, but if we want to continue moving in the right direction, we must continue to follow health directives," said Premier François Legault on Twitter.

The government underlined that any reopening will be conditional and subject to health and safety regulations.

Details on how shops will manage the flow of people and maintain social distancing rules are yet to be released.

With this wave of business reopenings, the Institut national de santé publique (INSPQ) released new scenarios for the progression of the pandemic if people don't respect the rules on Friday.

In the worst case, the city could see another wave of COVID-19 as early as July.

Also this week, the Government of Quebec unveiled its entire reopening plan.

The reopening of personal care services in the CMM completes "phase five."

"Phase six" includes outdoor pools, malls in the CMM, and outdoor team sports. Though no date has been set for these items yet.

Bars, gyms, and large gatherings will come at a later date.

The provincial and municipal governments have acted quickly to accommodate summer activity and make the season a little more fun for residents despite the cancellation of major events.

Across Montreal, boroughs are making streets more accessible for cyclists and pedestrians.

Some popular streets like avenue du Mont-Royal, rue Ste-Catherine, and rue Wellington will be pedestrian-only to make social distancing easier.

And though international travel may be limited this summer, Sépaq parks have begun to reopen for hiking, fishing, and camping.

But the organization told MTL Blog that its campsites are filling up quickly!
