The Montreal police released video surveillance that shows a truck speeding away after hitting a 55-year-old pedestrian. The victim suffered a "grave" head injury, according to a statement on the SPVM website.

Police have identified the truck as a 2006 champagne-silver Chevrolet Silverado. The driver is likely a man in his 40s.

The incident occurred on 17th avenue near rue Jean-Rivard in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Park-Extension borough of Montreal on August 23, 2017.

The video below appears to have been compiled using security camera footage from multiple businesses along the street.

The area is dominated by a commercial park at the intersections of boulevard Pie-IX and the autoroute 40.

This loading dock belonging to the company Gildan is clearly visible in the video:

Police have not released any other details about the victim.

Anyone with information that could identify the driver of the pick-up truck is encouraged to call 9-1-1. Informants may also submit tips anonymously at 514 393-1133.

"As a driver or owner of a vehicle involved in a collision," according to the SPVM, "you must accept these responsibilities:"

  • "Remain on the scene of the accident or return there immediately after,"

  • "Call for required assistance for any person who is injured,"

  • "Provide all necessary information the peace officer or person who has suffered damage,"

  • "Call for a peace officer if a person is injured,"

  • "Contact without delay the police station closest to the scene if the accident involves an unoccupied vehicle or a fixed object whose owner cannot be reached, in order to provide the necessary information."

"Not following these rules is a violation liable for a fine of between $200 to $600 depending on the case, plus 9 demerit points on your driving record."

Police will issue criminal charges against any driver that leaves the scene of an accident involving injury or death.

This is not the first such incident in the Montreal area this year. In January, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) released a video of another hit-and-run on the suburban Île-Perrot.

A video shared with MTL Blog by the SQ shows that vehicle lose control on snow-covered streets before slamming into a pedestrian.

Information on the case is no longer available on the SQ website.
