Major Highway Closures Will Make Getting Through Montreal A Nightmare This Weekend
Closures will affect several highways.
Another round of heavy traffic is coming to Montreal this weekend, so get ready. With summer in full swing, construction crews are hard at work, on the clock to complete several major projects such as the Turcot Interchange. Road closures will affect the commute on Highway 40, Highway 15, and the Jacques-Cartier bridge from June 5 to June 8.
Highway 40 eastbound between the Décarie and des Laurentides intersections will be closed. Mobilité Montréal states that Highway 15, in both directions near the Turcot Interchange, as well as on the Jacques-Cartier bridge should also be avoided.
The regional association also recommends that all drivers use carpooling or public transit whenever possible, keeping in mind to respect public health guidelines.
The Quebec government recentlythe restrictions on road construction projects and for three weeks, some major projects are already in full swing.
Here's what to expect this weekend.
Highway 40 East
"Complete closure [...] between exit 65 (A-520, chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse) and the entrance to boulevards de l'Acadie and Saint-Laurent."
Québec 511 recommends a detour via the chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse service road.
Drivers can also "take the A-440 (autoroute Jean-Noël-Lavoie) via the A-13 north at exit 60 eastbound or via the A-15 north at exit 70 westbound. Highways 20, 720, and 30 are also a possibility."
Highway 15 & Turcot Interchange
"Complete closure of A-15 south between the Turcot Interchange and the entrance to avenue Atwater."
Québec 511 lists two possible detours:
"Via the ramp for R-136 / A-720 east, exit 4 (rue de la Montagne), rue Saint-Jacques, continue to boulevard Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, A-10 east (Bonaventure) and A-15 south / Samuel de Champlain Bridge."
Or in "the boroughs of Verdun and the Sud-Ouest: on boulevard Robert-Bourassa, via rue Wellington, rue Saint-Patrick, rue d'Argenson, and avenue Atwater."
Also closed is the "ramp leading from the A-15 nord to the A-15 nord (Décarie)."
Detour "via the ramp for A-20 west, continue to exit 60 for A-13 north, A-520 east, A-40 east, and A-15 north/Laval at the Laurentian Interchange."
Another detour is possible "for users coming from Samuel de Champlain Bridge via exit 58 for A-10 west (Bonaventure), boulevard Robert-Bourassa, boulevard René-Lévesque ouest and the entrance at rue du Fort for A-720 / R-136 west."
As major construction projects pick up, Quebec police are alsoto catch speeders and other reckless drivers.
