  • Environment Canada has just issued a warning for snowfall in Montreal starting today and continuing into New Year's Eve.
  • Montreal and several other regions across Southern Quebec can expect to see up to 25cm of snow. Take a look at the forecasts below.

Well, we may not have had a white Christmas here in Montreal, but you had to know that wasn't going to last long. And if you're someone who has been wondering when it was finally going to snow in Montreal again - you're in luck. Environment Canada has just issued a snowfall warning for the Metro Montreal area, along with several other regions in Southern Quebec where there will also be a dump of snow.

Not only is it supposed to snow today, but we can apparently also expect to see the snow continue into tomorrow.

Environment Canada is anticipating that Montreal will get anywhere from 15 to 25 centimetres of snow throughout today and tomorrow, meaning the New Year's Eve commute could get pretty interesting.

Several regions in Southern Quebec are also dealing with that nasty ongoing Freezing rain warning. Others are under a "Special weather statement" due to winds that will cause blowing snow, which can significantly reduce visibility.

Take a look at the warnings and forecasts below for Montreal and other regions in Southern Quebec that will also be seeing some serious snow over the next two days.

Below are the regions under some kind of Weather Warning issued by Environment Canada in Southern Quebec as of 8 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019.

The areas highlighted in grey are under a Special Weather Statement.

Regions that are specifically under a Snowfall Warning are:

  • Beauce

  • Drummondville - Bois-Franc

  • Eastern Townships

  • Lachute - Saint-Jérôme

  • Lanaudière

  • Laurentians

  • Metro Montréal

You can see Monday and Tuesday will be bringing the fluffy white stuff to the city centre.

Environment Canada is warning that the "total snowfall accumulations" will reach between 15 and 25 centimetres between Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening, New Year's Eve.

They also add that "moderate to strong easterly winds may occasionally reduce visibility" due to blowing snow.

Translation: Still calm in Montreal. However, some snow mixed with sleet starting this morning, Risk of freezing rain. Accumulation of 10 cm. Windy. Max -2. Snow tonight, 10 cm. Temperatures near -2. The end of the year will be marked by a snowstorm.

So if you've been complaining about the lack of snow in Montreal over the last couple days... or if you're just over the freezing rain and slippery sidewalks... snow is on the way!

Which, of course, brings its own challenges when it comes to travelling via sidewalk and city street... but it will make for some great skiing all over Quebec.

Let's just hope no one suggests postponing New Year's Eve...
