Montreal's Orange Line Shut Down Between Lionel-Groulx And Berri-UQAM
Water has entered a metro station.
- The Montreal STM Orange line has been completely shut down between Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM this morning.
- The STM explained that the cause was an infiltration of water into the metro network.
- They believe service won't be back until 9 a.m. Details below.
Montreal's Orange STM metro line is currently down between Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM and is expected to remain shut down until 9 a.m., according to the STM.
Early this morning around 6:30 a.m., the STM tweeted out that trains on the Orange line were not stopping at Square-Victoria OACI.
Shortly after that, they then indicated that the Orange line would be stopped until 7:10 a.m., as water had infiltrated the metro network, presumably at Square-Victoria-OACI station.
UPDATE: Service is resuming on the orange line. Square Victoria station remains closed.
The STM has since updated passengers again, indicating that the shut down was now going to last until 9 a.m.; so, if you are someone that relies on the downtown portion of the Orange line to get to work...you might be late this morning.
Of course, luckily the Green line exists just north of the Orange line and runs parallel, providing access to nearly the same areas.
But I'm getting sweaty just thinking about everyone who usually takes the Orange cramming into the Green line along with everyone who normally takes the Green line. Everyone bundled in their winter's best — no doubt, it's going to be hot and busy down there.
Below are the initial tweets sent out by the STM that mention no trains stopping at Square-Victoria-OACI and then the shutdown of the line between Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM.
The tweet above shows the update sent out by the STM indicating that trains between Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM would not resume until 9 a.m.
The tweet below was sent out by the STM explains that, "An infiltration of water was caused by a broken aqueduct outside of the station. Water and electricity don't mix, we are forced to stop the service as prevention."
They then also explained to a passenger again, that they were forced to interrupt service preemptively to avoid any danger to passengers or employees, as water and electricity "are not a great combo."
Of course, as mentioned above, the STM is reminding passengers that the Green line is, of course, still available to passengers.
Also, the Orange line is still running north and south, so you can still get between Lionel-Groulx and Côte-Vertu as well as between Berri-UQAM and Montmorency.
Good luck on your commute this morning, Montreal!
