I’m not sure about you, but I thought my long weekend was pretty epic. That is until I learned about this guy. I mean, some like to celebrate Canada Day with fireworks, some with a barbeque among family and friends, and some like to go on drunken backhoe crime sprees.
A 50-year-old Quebec man was arrested yesterday after a witness notified police that a man was driving an excavator “erratically” through the downtown core of Sainte-Thérèse, a small city northwest of Montreal.
But it’s not all fun and games; the Thelma and Louise confused crime spree caused major property damage. Before police were able to catch the man, the thief managed to hit a car, rip out a fence, and crash into an apartment building. He also plowed through multiple electrical poles, causing a small fire.
Luckily firefighters were already on-site and were able to quickly extinguish the flames. Two police officers were mildly injured from debris from the fire but no major injuries were reported.
Police are unsure why or if that particular residential building was targeted and consider it an ongoing investigation. A police spokesperson said the man was intoxicated (in case we couldn’t have figured that part out for ourselves).
The best part of this whole story? After the excavator crashed into the building, police still had to forcibly remove the man from the excavator’s cab. Seems like he wasn’t quite ready to end his journey.
Luckily no one was injured during this man's huge tractor joyride, except maybe his pride and dignity...
And how was your weekend? If you didn’t get wasted, steal some heavy machinery and plow into a house – then hey, I think you’re doing just fine in life.
