If you're trying to call someone at Quebec's Info-Santé line, you might experience long wait times. "Over the past few days, the MSSS has noted delays in accessing the health information line," said the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) in a statement to MTL Blog. "We're monitoring waiting data in real-time and request adjustments from the institutions."

"We are in the process of correcting these delays by adding resources in all regions."

As you probably already know, by dialling 811 on any Québec phone line, you can speak to a nurse in case of a non-urgent issue. 

Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Info-Santé has been a lifeline for many Quebecers concerned with the developments during the first big wave of COVID-19.

But why is it that Quebecers experiencing such huge delays when they call 811?

It turns out that while "the number of calls is relatively stable," according to the MSSS, the service is experiencing a "capacity issue." 

The Ministry has already poured resources into the phone line.

 

It claims that "since the beginning of the crisis," it has "doubled the number of staff and we have nurses who respond only for COVID-19."

The government has also established additional phone lines for people experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Information, such as self-isolation instructions and general health recommendations, is also available online

The MSSS recommends that anyone who has an emergency situation call 9-1-1 and not wait around to speak to an Info-Santé nurse. 

 

As of August 4, 2020, Quebec has recorded 60,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, but that number could be just a fraction of the total number of infections in the province.
