Below are listed the 8 Montreal restaurants with the highest total amount of fines for health code violations so far in 2019. In every case, multiple infractions are the reason for these sums. We did not include on this list restaurants that have permanently closed or changed management since the delivery of these fines.

There is a handy little website from the Quebec government that lets the public know all the restaurants that have received fines or infractions in the last two years from the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec — MAPAQ — or, in English, Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. 

Infractions can involve anything from an employee who is handling food without wearing a hat, or produce stored at an incorrect temperature to perhaps more worrying infractions like the presence of rodents. Fines can range from $250 up to $2,600. 

We took a look through the website DO101 (which uses data from both the City of Montreal and MAPAQ) at the biggest Montreal restaurant offenders that received a judgment in 2019.

Fingers crossed that none of these happen to be your favourite place to grab a meal.
