I don't know what it is but there is a kind of childhood wonder with hot air balloons. And the International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu capitalizes on this with Canada's largest balloon festival.
This summer you can see over 100 giant balloons float into into the sky and it's all only a 30-minute drive away.
This festival is huge with adults and kids, alike, attending the week-long affair.
Even if balloons aren't your thing, the festival has something to offer. All in all, there will be 20 musical headliners, including musical performances by guests like Akon, Sean Kingston, Fafa Khan, and even Quebec's own hip-hop artist Loud.
If you buy your tickets now you can get a pass for $55 that grants you access to all of the activities, including the music (but you can pay extra if you want front row tickets). But just beware, entrance passes jump to $80 on August 10th.
But let's get back to the balloons, that's what we're there for. With over 350 thousand fans attending, the festival has reason to put on an amazing show.
Restaurants are set up around so you don't have to worry about bringing your own food. There is even an SAQ Bistro to satisfy any of your drink urges.
And if you've always wanted to go on a hot air balloon but couldn't get over your fear of heights, you can test out what it would feel like in the responsive hot air balloon pod.
