Now that spring is finally in full bloom, many are starting to think about their summer gardening plans. Our sad city patios and backyards can all use a little bit of greenery to cheer things up.
Gardening may seem intimidating to people like me who lack any kind of green thumb (RIP Alfonso, my plant which lived for exactly 3 days), but there are some plants that are easier to take care of than others. Succulents, certain herbs and trees are all hardy plants that will survive even the most careless gardener.
This is why I am so excited about the Great Gardening Weekend, when the Botanical Garden will be giving out free seedlings while supplies last.
The Great Gardening Weekend is a yearly event that takes place in March. This year, the event will be taking place between May 24 and May 26 at the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion, located in the Botanical Garden.
Every year, the Québec Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks and the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion give out free seedlings to visitors. Quantities are limited, so make sure you get there early if you want one!
Seedlings are great for sprucing up your backyard or that awkward little plot of land at the front of your apartment.
There will be other plant giveaways happening this weekend. The city of Montreal is giving out free flowers, herbs, compost and mulch this Saturday at various locations throughout the city.
The event began at 9:00 a.m. today, and it will be on for the rest of the weekend. I think it's time to put on your gardening gloves and get your summer garden started!
