As the city slowly starts to deconfine, I'm sure many of us are happy to know that there's still hope for having an amazing summer of 2020. And now, you can put going to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts back on your to-do list, because it just announced its reopening date.

Museums across Quebec were officially given the okay to reopen as of May 29. But, many seem to be waiting a little longer to open their doors again.

Luckily for us, one of our favourite museums has decided to reopen to the public as of June 6.

For now, Egyptian Mummies: Exploring Ancient Lives will be the only exhibition that you can visit. Its stay at the MMFA has been extended to June 28.

Visitors "will be required to book a time slot for their visit by purchasing tickets online," however.

The online ticket portal opens June 2.

For the time being, you can still do virtual tours of the museum while you patiently await its reopening.

In addition to making online ticket purchases mandatory, the museum has instituted a number of health measures, including:

  • a "strong recommendation" to wear a mask

  • hand sanitizer at the entrance to the museum

  • floor markers to control social distancing and the movement of visitors through the museum

  • and free audioguides through the MMFA app.

A number of services will "not be offered: the cloakroom, on-site audioguide rentals, the restaurant and café, workshops, guided tours, and educational activities."

The museum's reopening is sure to excite Montrealers, nonetheless.

This represents the first opportunity to go out and do something other than taking a stroll through your neighbourhood.

As for other museums in the city, the Musée d'art Contemporain (MAC) announced on its website that it's currently preparing its reopening plans.

The Pointe-à-Callière Museum of archaeology also shared on Facebook that it's getting ready to open its doors, though it hasn't shared a definitive date.
