• Premier François Legault has asked that people avoid non-essential travel between the regions as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quebec reaches 121.
  • He also assured that healthcare facilities are fully equipped to handle the growing number of infections.

In his latest update to the public, Premier François Legault confirmed that there are now 121 cases of COVID-19 in Quebec, up from 94 in the last announcement. 3,997 people are under investigation and another 6,331 have tested negative, according to Santé Québec. Only one person in Quebec has died as a result of COVID-19.

But in addition to reiterating the government's recommended precautions, he also asked that residents of Quebec limit their mobility within the province.

"Today, I want to add one more instruction to those already announced."

"I ask Quebecers, when it is not essential, not to travel from one region to another," he said.

But "for the time being," he continued, "we do not need to close any regions."

"But it is important, to avoid spreading the virus from one region to another, not to travel, unless it is essential, from one region to another."

The Premier further explained that the rapid climb in the number of cases also comes as the province increases its testing capacity, collecting and processing more samples more quickly.

One way health officials are doing that is through the erection of drive-through testing stations.

"There are more tests, so it's normal that there are more positive results," he assured.

"I also want to reassure all Quebecers [...] we currently have all the equipment we need in the short term, including swabs for tests, masks, gloves, respirators, visors and so on, and we are continuing to add to this equipment in the event of much stronger growth in the coming weeks."

This announcement comes after Quebec Public Health Director Horacio Arruda asked residents to limit their mask use and two Montreal hospitals launched an international competition to produce cheap, easy to produce ventilators amid a global shortage.
