The first episode of the Quebec version of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, titled Escouade 99, is now available on Club Illico.

This French-language adaptation has been heavily criticized of whitewashing its original Latina characters.

Multiple members of the original Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast commented on the Quebec version upon the release of its trailer, including Melissa Fumero, who plays Sergeant Amy Santiago in the show.

Fumero tweeted, "Gotta [say] though after watching this... I'm suddenly curious about the Latina population in Quebec. Just sayin."

The director of Escouade 99, Patrick Huard, reportedly responded to the controversy on September 16, claiming that he didn't consciously whitewash the cast, then continued to say "I take full responsibility. It was me who did that casting, and I did it rigorously..."
