A video of a Toronto woman throwing a chair onto the Gardiner expressway made the rounds this weekend, prompting outrage and confusion to everyone that saw it. The video, which police believe was taken Saturday around 10 am, was found by police on Sunday. Constable David Hopkinson said the video showed a callous disregard for the harm that could have been caused.
On Tuesday, police urged the woman to turn herself in, saying that they now knew her identity. The woman, who has since been revealed to be 19-year-old Marcella Zoia.
TL;DR The chair-throwing Toronto woman has been identified as being Marcella Zoia, a 19-year old woman. She is now facing three charges: mischief endangering life, mischief damaging property under $5,000 and common nuisance.
Luckily, no one was hurt, despite the evident stupidity and blatant disregard for others that we see in this video. Hopkinson stated that "Once we had known who she was, investigators reached out to her and they started to make arrangements for her to turn herself in."
He went on to state that "It's the best for everyone. This being a case where no one was injured, we didn't have any public safety concerns. It gave us leeway to try and treat her in the best possible way."
What do you think of these charges? Should they be harsher? Or are they fair seeing as no one was injured in this incident.
Also: PLEASE stop posting videos of your friends and you doing dumb things on the Internet, it WILL come back to bite you. Even better, just stop doing dumb things altogether.
