This Monday Will Be The Deadliest Day Of The Year

And it's all thanks to Daylight Savings Time.

Daylight Savings Time this year is on Sunday, March 10. All of Canada (except for Sasktachewan, parts of BC and tiny bits of Quebec and Ontario) will be "springing foward," moving their clocks forward one hour.

This means that many will wake up to a dark Monday morning feeling grumpy and poorly rested. On the bright side (no pun intended), the sun will only start setting around dinnertime.

This disturbance in our sleep can have some dangerous consequences. According to experts, the Monday after Daylight Savings is one of the most dangerous days of the year.

TL;DR According to experts, the Monday after Daylight Savings is one of the most dangerous days of the year. The rate of heart attacks increases, there are more accidents on the road, and more injuries at work, amongst other things.

Experts have found that the Monday after Daylight Savings Time can be very dangerous. Firstly, studies have shown that we lose 40 minutes of sleep over the change.

And this widespread lack of sleep can translate into some serious consequences. Tired, inattentive drivers on the Monday after DST were responsible for 30 more deaths on the roads between 2002 and 2011.

The lack of sleep also leads to an increase in heart attacks. A study by the BMJ journal has shown that hospitals see a 24% increase in heart attack visits on the Monday after DST as compared to the average Monday. Conversely, the Monday after DST in the fall (when we gain an hour) sees a 21% decrease in heart attack visits.

There are also reports that Daylight Savings Time in the spring causes more strokes, more injuries at work, and a higher risk of suicide.

Be safe on the roads and at work next Monday! And make sure you're getting enough sleep!
