This is measured by calculating how many countries grant visa-free access to the passport holder.
The world's best passports provide worry free access to up to 161 countries while the worst passports will only allow you to enter 26 countries.
Last year the Canadian passport was sitting at #6, but this year it jumped to #4 with access to 158 counties.
