Anyone who watches Rupaul's Drag Race knows that the show reached new heights in the last year. In 2018, alone, three seasons (in addition to a holiday special) of the franchise debuted. The show also finally won the Emmy award for Best Reality Competition series.
TL;DR Brooke Lynn Hytes, who is originally from Toronto, will appear on season 11 of Rupaul's Drag Race. She will be the first Canadian queen to compete on the popular show.
Despite some contorversy surrounding Rupaul's sometimes antiquated views on queer identity and drag culture, the show has become a cultural force. Alums from Drag Race have gone on to star in Broadway musicals and make appearances in Oscar-nominated films.
But for fans in Canada, something has always been missing: Canadian represenation. Canada has a bustling drag scene, but so far, no Canadian queens have competed on the show.
This year, however, that changes. CTV reports that for the first time, a Canadian queen will be among the show's contestants.
Brooke Lynn Hytes of Toronto made an appearance today in the newly-released promo for season 11, which will debut later this year.
Despite her name, Booke Lynn seems proud of her Canadian roots. Her Instagram bio reads, "Queen of the North."
She is sure to become a national favourite when the new season premiers. As the only queen from Canada, she may even garner the largest following of all the competitors.
Rupaul's Drag Race has launched its queens to international stardom. We can't wait to see where Brooke Lynn goes!
