As you may have heard by now, the government of Canada has a very special gift in store for you, in honor of our country’s 150th anniversary.

Starting in 2017, every national historic site operated by Parks Canada is absolutely free.

The goal is to encourage all Canadians to discover the most breathtaking places in the country.

But before you plan your trip, here's everything you need to know about this promotion.

The gift is valid for all Canadian and international visitors. So you don't need to have been born in the true north strong and free to take advantage of this offer.

But you're going to need an access pass.

The pass gives you unlimited opportunities to enjoy every National Park, National Marine Conservation Area and National Historic Site across the country.

The pass is valid until December 31, 2017.

You only need to order one pass for your group or family if you are all traveling together in the same vehicle.

Special Activities such as tours, parking and camping that normally carry a separate fee may not be covered by the Discovery Pass.

Special “Red Chairs” have been placed in various sites around the country and if you find them, it means you’re standing in one of the most spectacular places in the country.

Here's a list of the Red Chair locations.
