Chance The Rapper, a 24-year-old American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer from Chicago, has recently released a provocative tweet about a Heineken commercial, claiming it's "terribly racist"
I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably racist ads so they can get more views. And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it. But 😂 I gotta just say tho. The “sometimes lighter is better” Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) March 26, 2018
Although Chance doesn't want to 'boycott' the company, he is very blatantly claiming his strong beliefs that companies purposely make their ads racist to attract more viewers. In return, Heineken claimed that their tagline 'sometimes lighter is better' was only in reference to their product - the beer.
Any convert messages conveyed through advertising would need to be very subtle and low-key. Subsequently, to avoid any further problems, the Dutch brewing company has pulled the commercial.
Have a look at the original advertisement below, and you can make your own judgment.
