Canada is making history today on International Women's Day!
An all-new design for our $10 banknote is about to be unveiled by Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz.
Civil Rights activist Viola Desmond will be honoured by being featured on our new $10 bill.
This is a huge deal for Canada! Why you ask?...
Viola Desmond will become the first black person ever featured on Canadian currency.
The new bill will be in circulation later this year.
The new dollar bill marks recognition of Viola Desmond's refusal to leave the whites-only section of a movie theatre in Nova Scotia back in November 1946 - nearly a decade before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat.
Desmond played an integral role in Canada's Civil Rights movement.
