Montreal Ranked #1 City To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day In Canada

Was there really any doubt?

What I love about St. Patrick's Day is that even though I don't have Irish roots, I never feel left out of the celebrations and libations. Montreal's St. Patrick's Day Parade is a classic event that my grandfather would take me to every year as a child and every time the holiday comes around, I'm filled with fond memories of watching a parade go by in chilly March weather in head to toe green, hoping that the St. Patrick's Day Queen notices me in a sea of smiling faces.

St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner. As Montrealers are gearing up for this Sunday's festivities, everyone is releasing their official St. Patrick's Day rankings. Today, we found that Montreal is ranked the #1 city in Canada for St. Patrick's Day celebrations. We're wondering though, was it really a contest?

TL;DR  Montreal is officially the top city in Canada to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. This shouldn't come as a surprise to many locals! If it's your first St. Patrick's Day in Montreal, you simply cannot miss the party happening this Sunday, March 17th.

It might come as a surprise to some, but Montreal's St. Patrick's Day Parade is the oldest running parade in the world. The first parade was held in 1824, along a route through the former Irish community in Griffintown and St. Henri.

In fact, the St. Patrick's Society of Montreal, formed in 1834, is the oldest fraternity in Canada and even predates the Société Saint-Jean Baptiste.

Irish heritage runs deep in Montreal. As one of the first ethnic populations to come to the city, the strength of the Irish community in Montreal is a source of pride and inspiration for everyone.

Our Irish heritage is so long and amazing that Concordia University even has a School of Irish Studies!

So we're not really that surprised that this blog rated Montreal the top city to celebrate St. Paddy's two years running.

The parade is always the main attraction, but would it be St. Patrick's Day without drinking a dangerous amount of green beer?

With dozens of Irish pubs across the city and even more bars and restaurants going all out of the festivities, you won't have to go far to find a pint and "go green" with your friends!

This year's parade is back along its usual route on St. Catherine's after being diverted to de Maisonneuve last year. For three hours, come enjoy everything the parade has to offer. You might even get lucky!

Montreal's St. Patrick's Day Parade is this Sunday, March 17th at noon. It will begin on the corner of St. Catherine and du Fort and end near Dorchester Square. For complete details on the parade, check out their official website

As always, have fun and stay safe Montreal!
