Montreal has a whole lot of potholes. The giant holes, which make streets look more like swiss cheese than roads, have almost become a running joke. Potholes are frequent in Montreal because of the brutal winter weather: water runs under the asphalt and expands as it turns into ice, wreaking havoc on the roads.
Though potholes can be found on virtually every street in Montreal, some are definitely better than others. To find out which streets are the worst streets in Quebec, the CAA analyses user-submitted data every year for "CAA-Quebec’s Worst Roads campaign."
This year, the CAA analysed over 12,000 user-submitted reports and compiled a list of the worst roads in Quebec for the fourth year in a row.
TL;DR The CAA compiled a list of the worst roads in Montreal for 2018 and it seems pretty accurate. You can find the full list below.
Every year, the CAA aims to bring awareness to the poor state of the road in Quebec. The data for 2018 is now available.
The CAA hopes that the campaign will serve as "proof that a lot of work remains to be done to bring our road infrastructures up to speed and, above all, that the conditions of our thoroughfares is uppermost among the concerns of their users."
At the top of the Quebec-wide list is Boulevard Gouin. Suprisingly, this is the only Montreal road that features on the province-wide list.
When we go into the data per region, this is the list for the Montreal area:
1. Boulevard Gouin-Est
No wonder this was rated the worst street in Quebec. It's hard to imagine driving on that road and keeping your car intact.
2. Boulevard Pie-IX
Avoid Pie-IX Boulevard this morning. There was a little accident on the southbound lanes near Jarry. (Photo: Journal de Montréal) pic.twitter.com/xayzIkXYZk— Domenic Fazioli (@DomenicFazioli) November 3, 2018
This is arguably a pretty funny photo, but the state of this street is no joke.
3. Rue Notre-Dame-Est
The caption says it all. The state of this street is so bad it shouldn't belong in the present.
4. Place Chassé
This street may be small, but it's got quite a big problem. It seems like there are more potholes than asphalt on the street.
5. Chemin de la Côte-Saint-Luc
This street in Montreal's west end rounds off the CAA's list of the worst streets in Montreal. Holey-moley!
Does this list seem accurate? Do you have any pothole horror stories?
