Warning: Major Power Outages Are Happening Across Montreal
Here is what you should do if your power goes out.
A series of unlikely accidents occured yesterday in Montreal. First, a manhole exploded outside a storefront in Montreal's La Petite Patrie borough near the intersection of rue André and rue Bélanger.

According to a recent report by CBC, at the peak of the shutdown yesterday, nearly 41,000 hydro customers were without power.
Today, thousands of Montrealers are still without power.

According to the same CBC report, Hydro-Québec spokesperson Louis-Olivier Batt mentioned another factor that can contribute the the widespread power outages.
Due to the cold weather, many people crank up the heat when their power comes back on. This can create an overload somewhere else on the network, and as a result, you can unknowingly contribute to the circumstances that lead to an outage.
