Montreal's Riot Squad Called In To Shut Down Insane "Back To School Party" Over The Weekend
The police actually had to release tear gas!
Back to school season is in full swing. With students across the city getting prepared for the year it's no surprise to see a few parties pop up here and there. Seriously, back to school parties have been going on since people had to start going back to school. It can be a great way to bring in the new school year and celebrate whats left of summer.
Unfortunately, sometimes those parties can get a bit out of hand. Each year Montreal police have to infiltrate tons of the teenage parties, and this year is no exception.
Yes, the police have officially started shutting down these parties, so you know autumn and the infamous back to school season is definitely upon us.
The party in question was organized for teens, all under legal drinking age. A reception hall was rented out and the venue quickly reached capacity. With that many teenagers you can probably imagine what happened next.
A massive fight broke out amongst the party-goers, first starting inside and quickly ending up outside the venue with multiple other teens joining in. The fight quickly turned into a giant mosh pit of people beating each other up.
As if it couldn't get any worse, another mob from the once good-natured celebration started lighting garbage cans on fire and throwing dangerous objects on the streets. Needless to say, police were called to diffuse the disastrous situation.
When the police unit in charge of shutting down these events, known as the "riot squad", arrived the "party" had gotten so out of control that the only way to actually get people to leave was for the police to release tear gas.
One teen was arrested during the chaos for lighting garbage cans on fire and afterwards assaulting a police officer. Luckily, no one was seriously injured during the ordeal.
Of course, not all parties get out of hand like this. But if you are planning on hosting a back to school party of your own, beware... the riot squad is totally ready to shut it down.
