Now that the old Montreal Metro cars are being retired, there's only one thing left to figure out. What the hell are we going to do with all of them?
The boring answer would be to sell them for scrap metal, but a few more whimsical options have been suggested.
First the STM was trying to sell the old cars for $750.
Then we tried to help out by coming up with 10 Unique Ways Montreal Could Reuse The Old STM Metro Cars.
And now an architecture and design firm called AEdificia have suggested another project.
They want to turn 100 old metro cars into the new Saint-Laurent Metro station.
The project was initially designed as residential building, but the firm couldn't find the right piece of land so instead they are suggesting that this building should sit atop the St-Laurent station.
It's definitely an original idea. But I just have two problem with this project.
If my bedroom was the inside of a metro car, I would constantly be wondering how many people have urinated inside it over the years. And second that crawlspace between the car and the ceiling looks like it's going to be very hard to dust.
Other than that, we think it's a pretty cool idea.
What do you think?
