Yesterday, we wrote about a petition found online that was taking signatures to call for a remake of the rushed and shoddily-done final season of the beloved HBO show Game of Thrones.
Since writing that article yesterday, May 15th at 5PM, the petition has managed to rack up over 390,000 signatures (391,845 to be exact) and the signatures are still pouring in. The goal was originally set at 500,000 but it seems time to up the ante and set the goal a little higher.
And why not? Clearly, fans are beyond disappointed with the way the final season is playing out, and the more signatures the more likely it is that someone important might actually consider re-making the end to the on-screen Game of Thrones story.
The petition created on Change.org provides this call-to-action:
"David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.
This series deserves a final season that makes sense.
Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"
Which, to me, brings up a very interesting point. The showrunners, who had been affectionately referred to as "D&D" by fans, have faced scrutiny of late. Particularly when fans found out that they were offered a bigger budget and more episodes to tell the final chapter of the story and they turned it down.
The final season has been fraught with questionable plotlines and editing errors that have made fans feel beyond disappointed with the way D&D decided to wrap up the show. It really does seem that without the books to guide their storytelling they lack real direction.
First, there was the now-infamous coffee cup, then Jaime's hand, when it comes to stupid gaffes. Then with plotlines, fans wondered where Daenerys' quick change in disposition came from and also how King's Landing managed to change so much in such a short amount of time.
For fans who aren't getting paid to pay attention to the little details, it's beyond confusing that those in charge of the show and who do have the power over these little details can't manage to keep things straight... or at the very least accurate to the universe (we're looking at you, Starbucks cup).
So it really is no surprise that fans are looking for a re-do by someone, anyone, that will care as much as they do when it comes to the final fate of their beloved GoT universe and all those within it.
Will you be signing the petition? You can find it right here on Change.org.
