Netflix Is Going To Be Horrible In 2019

It will never be the same again.

Netflix as we know it is going to change drastically over the next couple of years, and although change isn't necessarily a bad thing, these particular ones are going to make Netflix horrible by the end of 2019.

When Netflix first came on the scene they were just an online video rental store. Oncer they evolved into a streaming service they began releasing a few original shows. But let's be honest, most people weren't interested in those shows, we just wanted to have access to a massive media library so we can watch all the content we love in one place.

TL;DR WarnersMedia and Disney are expected to pull their content from Netflix by the end of 2019. Netflix is reacting by producing more "Originals" which means that over time, Netflix will slowly become just another TV channel.

Sadly this will soon no longer be possible.

In the last few years, Netflix has been releasing more “Netflix Originals”, cancelling shows they aren't producing in-house and ending big contracts with companies who own the rights to all the best shows and movies available in the Netflix library.

This week everyone freaked out when the news came out that Netflix was removing the show Friends. And after a huge backlash, Netflix assured everyone Friends would be staying, but not for long. Netflix paid $100 million to keep Friends on, but only for another year.

WarnerMedia which owns the rights to Friends is currently developing their own streaming service, and when it's up and running they will be pulling all of their content from other streaming services.

This includes shows like The Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girls, Jane the Virgin, Shameless and every single show or movie based on DC characters.

Disney is also launching its own streaming service, so you can also likely wave goodbye to all your favourite Disney movies. After that, it’s only matter of time before every other major network launches their own streaming service and we’re stuck paying for 10 different monthly subscriptions.

So what's the plan? Simple, Netflix wants to start streaming more original shows and movies and focussing less on acquiring programs they did not produce. That means they are taking away the very reason why most of us subscribed to Netflix in the first place and they'll eventually become just a really expensive glorified TV channel.

Enjoy it while you can, because by the end of 2019, Netflix is going to be horrible.
