I'll be the first to say that I love Chinatown. I used to there almost every weekend with my parents and honestly, I'm really happy I did. It drives me nuts when people say they haven't been. It's one of the best places in the city!
Eating food from other cultures is super important. Not only does it open your mind, but it allows you to discover new flavors. And personally, I definitely like "foreign" food better. The use of spices and the creativity just can't be matched. Chinese food included.
Now Chinatown doesn't serve solely Chinese food. It's kind of a mix of all Asian-inspired cuisines. I could get into the history of Chinatown, but that's a topic for a whole other article. Let's just start with the best spots to eat and drink:
I don't know about, but the first thing I think of when I read "Orange Rouge" was orange chicken, so they've already got my attention. This awesome restaurant serves a modern twist on traditional Chinese and Japanese cuisine and it's really modernizing this kind of cooking. On top of that, they've got an amazing list of cocktails and imported beers, so you know you're in for a good time. Mix that with their insane decor and ambiance, and you've got yourself a deal.
I've definitely already written about this place before. But come on, it's amazing! This hidden Chinatown bar is super chill and is the place to go if you're looking for a good time. They're known for their sensational pineapple cocktails which serve your drink directly inside a hollowed-out pineapple. How cool is that?! Their menu is off the charts. I'd have an impossible time figuring out what to eat. Everything looks so scrumptious. So what are you waiting for? Grab your friends and head on down here for a drink!
If you go to Chinatown a lot, then you've definitely heard of Harmonie. It's the absolute perfect place for a quick bite to eat or for a snack. They specialize in bubble tea and pastries. Sounds pretty good, huh? Well, it is! Chinese pastries are unlike any other. They've got this buttery, delicious taste that I've never had anywhere else. And don't even get me started on bubble tea. It's so simple and yet so delicious!
If you're looking for some good Chinese soul food, then this is the place for you! From their soups to their meat dishes, they have got it going on. It will make your taste buds sing! They claim that their food is super authentic, and hey they're in Chinatown so it's definitely as close to authentic as you'll get. They've got a great ambiance and for real, it's an amazing place to eat. They even deliver!
This place has a really interesting history. Shabu-shabu goes back to the time of Genghis Khan's armies. So they rely on using as little ingredients as possible. Making this kind of nutrient-heavy, efficient (and delicious) soup is one of the core concepts of their restaurant. For over 10 years, chef Kagayaki has been servingis a great way to experience great Japanese cooking. He even handpicks all of his ingredients. I can't wait to try!
Do I even need to explain why this place is amazing? It's called "Oh Dumplings" so you can probably guess what they serve. It's amazingness. There's a good reason their dumplings are so good. They're fresh and handmade, so you know that what you're eating isn't going to taste just like anywhere else. They've got a huge variety of flavors, not to mention their secret recipes. You have GOT to try them out. You won't regret. Their commitment to food quality is reason enough!
