Pets, and dogs in particular, are a contentious issue in the city of Montreal.
After years of negotiations, the city council this summer finally passed its new animal by-laws, which regulate how pet owners may keep their animals in the city.
TL;DR The SPCA is warning Montreal residents that somone is poisoning dogs in the city. According to Reddit comments, the killer has already murdered at least two dogs.
At one point under the last municipal administration, the city even considered a ban on pitbulls. After public outcry, current Montreal mayor Valérie Plante ditched that proposal.
Animal haters, unfortunately, still live among us.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is now warning Montreal residents of a potential dog poisoner in the city.
One Reddit user posted a picture of SPCA posters circulating in their neighbourhood:
The poster states that the advocacy group is investigating complaints of potential poisoning in the city.
A look at the comments beneath that Reddit post and the situation suddenly seems much more grave.
One commenter stated that the killer has "already killed two dogs I know. One was a little poodle mix. He was quiet and never bothered anyone and never left his second floor balcony. Whoever this was chucked something laced with poison and killed him."
But while Reddit is awash in such stories, an SPCA spokesperson told MTLBlog there is little cause for alarm. So far, only one dog has been potentially poisoned in Saint-Leonard.
