These 10 Museums Will Be Free This Spring In Montreal

The Biosphere, Science Centre and many more!

Montreal - the mecca metropolis of fine arts, amazing exhibits, and entertainment just about everywhere you look.

Montreal's art galleries and museums are some of the best in the country. Seriously, last year alone the MMFA had a 42% increase in attendees, welcoming over 1.3 million visitors.

Now that spring is here, it's just about time for Free Museum Day in Montreal!

The official programming has not been announced just yet, but if prior years are anything to go off of you can almost bet that these museums will be offering up free entry next month.

Last year, over 40 museums participated, and many are expected to do so again in 2018!

Situated in Montreal's Olympic Park, the Planetarium will likely be free next month, so you can enjoy some cool creatures like sloths and penguins as well as indulge in the starry night sky!

Musée de l'Holocauste Montréal

Instead if binging through some of the many Netflix World War II documentaries (it's all my partner watches these days) you should go out and see some of the real stuff at Montreal's Holocaust Museum.

Montreal Science Centre

Interactive science - need I say more? This one is perfect for kids and families, and those adults who still love to play like a kid, and love science!

The McCord Museum should be up on your list, simply for the dedication to the preservation of Canadian history.

Museum L'Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal

3800 Queen Mary Rd

Quebec history and cultural artifacts. This museum is worth venturing too on Free Museum Day, if only because any other day you'd likely just get distracted by the incredible views on top of Mount Royal and never go inside.

The Biosphere

300 Chemin Macdonald

The former U.S. Pavilion from the Expo 67, now a Montreal museum dedicated to the environment. Also usually free for one day in spring, and worth checking out. I will be, only because I always look at it in awe and have never, ever, been inside.

Shining a light on the working class of Montreal's Sud-Ouest (my neighbourhood, and the best in Montreal!), the museum is an old art-deco building and former public bath.

A no-brainer, and always participating in Free Museum Day. The MMFA is, in my opinion, the best museum in town. Their diverse collection of exhibits and installations are not to be missed.

Again, these museums are just a few that typically participate in Montreal Museums Day, which is expected to announce a ton more in the official programming.

I will come back and update this list as soon as the announcement is made.

This year, Montreal Museums Day falls on Sunday, May 27, 2018.

There is usually free shuttle bus service to get you from one place to the other, and the event runs from 9 AM - 4 PM.

Stay tuned for more details as they are announced!
