As the legalization of weed in Canada is drawing near (less than a month now), more and more discussion has been revolving around this topic. Some individuals are excited, some are concerned and some companies are trying to capitalize on this territory.
TL;DR As the legalization of weed is coming to a near, there are new laws being put in place everyday. The newest one is cities across Quebec that want to ban people from smoking in public.
These are all reasonable measures, especially for a drug to become legal.
Recently though, news has broken out that there are cities across the Quebec region that want to ban individuals from smoking pot in certain outdoor areas.
These areas include St. Jerome, Granby, La Sarre, Repentigny, Saguenay, Chambly, Blainville, Mascouche, Victoriaville, Val-d'Or, Lachute, Sherbrooke, Gaspé, Deux-Montagnes, Saint-Gilbert, Orford and Saint-Anselme. Everyday this list gets longer and longer. There are 40 more places that are actually considering this.
Where exactly do they want to ban pot-smoking? Places like sidewalks, streets and even parks.
This is no joke, if you are caught smoking weed in a public place you will get a serious fine- from $50 up to $1,000!
It's almost like "the war on drugs" all over again. These cities are cracking down on pot smoking in all public places. For instance, in Granby, cannabis regulations will be enforced by two police officers at all times.
You won't be able to be "under the influence of weed" either in public areas, in such places like Saguenay and Mascouche. Although this would be quite difficult to determine how much is "too much" and is most likely used as a "scare tactic".
Will you be affected?
