Montreal's boroughs are very different from one another when it comes to the  cost of living, the people, the culture and even the food.

But they also vary greatly when it comes to crime. Some boroughs are far safer than others. We looked at the data obtained by Journal Metro from the SPVM which looked at crimes against people, as well as crimes against property.

Keep in mind, these numbers don't mean you're safe if you're in the borough with the least amount of crime.

For example, in 2014, the borough where you're most likely to get murdered was Lasalle. But there were 4 murders there that year. And although Ville Saint-Laurent seems safe, there were 11 murder attempts there during the same period. If those murderers had been more successful, perhaps Saint-Laurent would appear at the top of the list.

So it's not that Lasalle has more murderers, they just have better murderers.

Went scanned through the data and ranked all the borough in order from most to least dangerous. And the winner is...

1. Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

  • Average Crime Toll Per 1000 Inhabitants: 31,40

2. Le Plateau-Mont-Royal

  • Average Crime Toll Per 1000 Inhabitants: 26,46

3/4  Le Sud-Ouest , Ville-Marie

  • Average Crime Toll Per 1000 Inhabitants: 25,96

5. Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

  • Average Crime Toll Per 1000 Inhabitants: 24,00

15. Saint-Laurent

*Again keep in mind, the boroughs were ranked by their average crime rate per 1000 inhabitants. That means the "safest" neighborhoods don't necessarily have less crime, they may just have a higher population.
